So you want to make a quilt... Quiltmaking class at Best Friends is the perfect place to start making a quilt! We’ve designed a class program that quickly gets you making and finishing quilts, increasing your skills with achievable projects. Most of our classes are available both morning (10-12:30) and evening (6:30-9:00) for your convenience.

QP101—Intro
to Machine Quilt Piecing )
If
you don’t know a rotary cutter from a pizza cutter START HERE! You’ll
learn the basics: use of quilter’s ruler with rotary cutter and
healable mat, how to mark your machine for accurate 1/4 inch seams,
squaring up and more. Use our tools
for class, bring your own machine or reserve ours. You’ll
make a throw-size quilt top in class. Requires: Yellow Brick
Road pattern and 6 fat quarters.

Piecing for Fairly Confident )
Beginners (Log

is for someone who knows their tools and has sewn a straight seam
or two. You can learn to chain piece the log cabin block and
should complete most blocks in the first session. You will
also learn design, color choice, and following a complex pattern.)

There
are many ways to create triangles in quilts. Some
are difficult, some are amazingly easy! Once you learn to
make triangles, you can make almost any quilt you come across.

Piecing
Every beginner
should try Paper Piecing! You can quickly master seemingly
impossible points and teeny tiny pieces—without a quarter inch seam!
If you can sew a straight line—you can do Paper Piecing! It
is easier than you think...

STEP 2 QUILTING
“It’s
not a quilt till it’s quilted.” I’m sure you’ve all heard
this expression. Well, it’s true! Until you quilt it,
it is a quilt TOP! Many people have lovely collections of
quilt tops... if you want to have QUILTS, you should take
this next step. You have a couple of options for quilting.
Hand Quilting

Learn about
which needles to use and which thread. Hear about the different
types of thimbles available. Just bring your favorite thimble
and hoop and learn to make even, teeny-tiny stitches.
