nature_09.gifIt was all a dream...  literally!
Best Friends Quilt Shoppe began in October 2000, when Jan Doench called her daughter Jessica (me) one morning, explaining she'd had a dream.  In the dream, Jan, Jessica, and Jan's best friends Sue Pelzel & Kathie Brindle (my cousin) would all open a quilt shop together, and it would be called Best Friends.  "Go back to bed, Mom" was the response.  Well, later that month we were on the road to Houston and the International Quilt Market!  It has been a whirlwind journey ever since.

We opened the shoppe March 31, 2001 with less than 1000 bolts of fabric in about 800 square feet of store space.  After three expansions, what seems like miles of new shelving, and daily visits from the UPS guy, we are now somewhere between 2500 & 3000 bolts.  Having filled our first floor, a lower level classroom, and machine quilting department upstairs, we finally moved to a 2800 square foot space in July of 2004!

We tend to carry lots of brights and novelties, including nearly every Cat, Dog, and Horse fabric we can find!  We have a bevy of books, a plethora of patterns, and a nice number of notions.  If we don't have it yet - we can usually get it!

Our shoppe is dedicated to the memory of my father, Douglas Anthony Doench, who passed away in 1999.  He was the friendliest guy anybody ever knew.

Our website and newsletter are written and edited by Jessica J. Doench (me).  If you find any problems with them, I really don't want to hear about it, because I'm very sensitive to criticism.  (No, really, you can tell me, but be gentle, please.)
