Pillowcase Sewathon Rescheduled

We were really bummed when we had to cancel our SuperBowl Sewathon, but you all came through with hundreds of donated pillowcases you made at home!  Great work!

We’ve rescheduled the Sew-a-Thon for March 14th, 12-4.  Drop in any time, we’ll be sewing all day!  Bring 3/4 yd cuts for the main pillowcase fabrics, we can provide the trim fabrics.

See you there!

Jess @ BFQS

Disney Dream quilt fabric is here!

You know the saying - “someday my prince will come…”  We’ve been feeling that way about our new Disney Dream Collection fabric by Thomas Kinkade - but now the waiting is over!  Snow White, Pinocchio, Peter Pan and Tinkerbell, all on good quality quilt fabric from David Textiles.  Each fabric group has a panel print featuring a central portrait of those classic Disney characters, plus a couple of great coordinating prints.

Supply is limited - get yours before they’re gone! Click Here to go to the Disney Dream Collection fabric line page.

SuperBowl Sewathon Rescheduled

Our Million Pillowcase challenge sew-a-thon on Super Bowl Sunday is cancelled due to weather - we will announce a reschedule date soon.

You need your own extension cords…

Doesn’t it just figure that when you’ve finally found time to sew, somebody has appropriated all the extension cords?  We must have dozens of cords of various configurations around our house, but they all seem to either be plugged into something, or have something plugged into them.

Normally, I’d be okay with just the 2 plugs that are near to the table.  However,  my dear sister Katy “borrowed” the lightbulb from my sewing machine, so now I also have to plug in my Ott Lite just so we can see what we’re doing…

Lesson learned - next time I buy (or claim for myself) a surge strip or extension cord, I’m putting it away in my sewing machine case!  Or maybe in the closet with the sewing stuff… they’d never be able to find it in there!

Super Bowl Sew-a-Thon for Million Pillowcase Challenge

UPDATE:  SUPER BOWL SUNDAY SEWATHON CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER - WATCH FOR RESCHEDULE DATE - THANKS!

We’re joining in the Million Pillowcase Challenge, sponsored by American Patchwork and Quilting Magazine, with a Super Bowl Sunday Sew-a-Thon!  Organize a “team” of 3-4, and call to sign up for a timeslot.  If you don’t have a team, don’t worry - we’ll tuck you into a Wild Card spot!

Each team should bring basic sewing supplies, plus your sewing machine (we’ll have our classroom machines available as well), and fabric.  We’ll provide the fabric for trims, you just need to bring 3/4 cuts for the pillowcase bodies.  So, raid your stash for those leftover kids fabrics and brights - I’m sure you’ve got something that would do - plus, we’ll have some selected kids fabrics at special prices just for the sew-a-thon as well.

We’re working in 1/2 hour increments from Noon to 4pm, so you’ll be home in plenty of time for your parties!  Gather up your girlfriends and sign up today! (Call 513-385-2200 to register your team.)

Sunday, February 7th from Noon-4pm

p.s. - if you have a serger (and know how to use it), that would work great for this project.  Also, the free pillowcase pattern is available at the shop for those who can’t come to our Super Bowl party.

New Amy Butler’s “Love” line is in!

Love - new fabric line by Amy Butler for Rowan

Love - new fabric line by Amy Butler for Rowan/Wesminter Fabrics

We’ve been waiting for a new release from Amy Butler, and here it is!  We ordered this fabric sight-unseen to be sure we’d be able to get it for you as it was first released.  The 26 piece fabric line from Westminster/Rowan Fabrics is quite luscious, with vibrant colors and fine details.

Amy says on her website that she was inspired by recent trips to India and England, and it shows.  The line is retro-chic as usual, but also adventurous, with pieces that are highly detailed and pieces that are almost watercolor/soft focus.

I can’t wait to dig into this group!  I’m seeing a “Between Friends” or “Shoeboxes” (from the book Happy Hour), or maybe a “Hip to be Square” quilt.  I might have my sister KT make up one of her super-cute baby dresses too.   Of course, there are new Amy Butler patterns to go with the new line, including wearables, bags, and home decor.  We’ll be getting the patterns onto the webstore soon.

Meanwhile, hop on over to the webstore (click the Love picture above to go straight to the new Amy Butler line) and pick up your favorites before they’re all gone!

Open House Fun for Jan & Jess

Jan & I spent last weekend up north at our main distributor’s Open House, and it was fantastic!  We got so many new ideas, and we met a bunch of cool famous people!

We met Nancy Zieman, who showed us a cool 3-hour purse demo (this will definitely be a future class), Linda Franz, who was demonstrating her new Inklingo book (too cool - prints cutting and sewing lines on fabric), Orion Burns - Eleanor’s strapping young son, and McKenna Ryan, who is the sweetest, most charming famous person I’ve ever met - more on her presentation later!

Bottom line - look for lots of fun new things at our own Open House September 5th, and great demos during Shop Hop Week!

It’s S-day!

Yes, it is SALE DAY!  Yes, I am still up at 1:38 in the morning… Believe it or not, we are still working on setting up, although I have finally gone home to sleep some.  Be sure to stop by this weekend - we’ve got fabrics up to 70% off (including all the flannels), and TONS marked at 50% off.   PLUS - we’ve got a mini festival with Quilter’s Cornhole, door prizes every half hour, and you just have to see our remodeled store - you won’t recognize it!

Sale runs Saturday 10-6, and Sunday 12-5.  Hope to see you there!

ps - sorry, the sale prices are not offered online.

Floor is down, ceiling is up…

Who would have thought that the hardest part of taking down our wall would be putting up that tiny strip of ceiling?  It took our guys HOURS!

Meanwhile, we pulled up floor and put down floor.  We’ve got a few feet to go on the new side, but we’re almost there.  Just one more evening of screeching saw noises…

We got more new fabric in yesterday.  That makes more than 200 bolts just in the last week!  We also got the majority of our existing fabric sorted out yesterday, so it will be easier to shop for the moment.  I will try to have all the new stuff up on the website by the weekend.

Speaking of the weekend, save some time to come out and visit us for our big party on Saturday and Sunday.  It’s our big Summer Sale + some.  We’re featuring some of our local quilt charities with drawings, giveaways, and games.  Of course, we’ve also got tons of fabric on sale…  hope to see you there!
